It will accommodate 14,250 athletes during the summer Olympics, and 8,000 during the Paralympic Games.

Australia's gold-chasing Olympians will be catching forty winks on cardboard beds but will have a choice of mattress in the first images of the Paris athlete's village.

None of the rooms have air conditioning but they do have fans and geo-cooling floors. All transport at the village is electric-generated.

Aussie athletes are aiming for a record gold-medal haul in Paris with genuine chances in at least 22 sports.

The 17 Gold medals won in Tokyo three years ago and in Athens in 2004 remain the benchmark.

The Olympic village will house 22,250 athletes and boasts 7000 rooms.

There are also 18,000 fitness machines.

Practice basketball courts are also to be found inside a repurposed film studio which has hosted shows such as The Walking Dead and Emily In Paris.

The village also features a small supermarket, hair salon and post office and the dining hall with 50 different cuisines on offer will serve 60,000 meals.
