General Motors has recalled 63 examples of the Chevrolet Corvette in Australia after it was discovered the sports car's seatbelts don't comply with local regulations.

"Due to a manufacturing defect, the front seatbelt automatic locking retractors (ALR) may engage earlier than intended and lock the retractor when an occupant is attempting to fasten the seatbelt," General Motors said in its recall notice.

"This may result in the vehicle occupants being unable to correctly fasten the seatbelt as intended.

"The seatbelts not operating as intended could leave the vehicle occupants without the primary safety restraint. The affected vehicles do not comply with Australian Design Rule 04/06 – Seatbelts."
